Ying Sun currently serves as the Director of Research & Strategic Initiatives at the University of Cincinnati - College of Engineering and Applied Science, a position held since October 2024. In addition, Ying Sun has been the Herman Schneider Professor and Head of the Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering at the University of Cincinnati since August 2022. Prior to these roles, Ying Sun held the Hess Family Endowed Chair Professor position at Drexel University from 2009 until August 2022, focusing on multiphase flows, heat/mass transfer, complex fluids, and multiscale modeling in energy systems and advanced manufacturing. Ying Sun's experience also includes managing a research portfolio as a Program Director for the National Science Foundation's Directorate for Engineering from July 2019 to July 2022. Earlier academic roles include Assistant Professor at Binghamton University from 2006 to 2009. Ying Sun earned an Executive Leadership in Academic Technology and Engineering certificate from Drexel University and holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Iowa, as well as a B. Eng in Thermal Engineering from Tsinghua University.
