Professor. Pathirgae Kamal Perera BAMS (Hons) (Colombo), MSc (USJ), Ph.D. in Pharmacology (PR China), is a Professor, Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He specialized in Pharmacology, Therapeutics, and Clinical Immunology. He certified and trained in Pharmacovigilance and Drug safety in the WHO Collaborating Centre of Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC). Further, he obtained post-doctoral training in the clinical drug development process and achieved the Diploma in Research & Development of Products to Meet Public Health Needs, Nagasaki University Japan. He is a leading clinical researcher in the fields of herbal clinical pharmacology, Ayurveda medicine, and traditional medicine in Sri Lanka. Currently Professor. Perera is lecturing and supervising UG and PG programmes of MSc/MD/MPhil/PhDs. He together with his students and colleagues has been the recipient of awards for research excellence and innovation at university, national and international levels. He was a pioneer member to develop a Unit for Research and Development of Natural products to conduct experimental studies and clinical trials in the Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo.

Professor. Perera has held many leadership positions in the field of Ayurveda medicine in the University of Colombo. Professor. Perera has held the posts of Head of Department of Allied Sciences and Head of the Department of Ayurveda Pharmacology and Pharmaceutics in the Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo. Professor. Perera was among the pioneers in the development of first MD(Ayu) programme in the Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo. Professor. Perera was the first coordinator for the very first MD(Ayu) programme in IIM, University of Colombo. Professor. Perera served as a senior consultant to the World Health Organization (WHO), project on “A review of traditional medicine research in Sri Lanka: 2015–2019” and Project on “intellectual property rights (IPRS) and trade in traditional medicines (TM) in Sri Lanka, 2015”.
