Prof. Dr. dr Andrea Icks, born in Düsseldorf in 1965, studied human medicine at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf (HHU) and received her doctorate in 1992 from the Institute of Hygiene at the HHU. In 1992 she completed her studies in health sciences (public health) and also received her doctorate in 2000 at the University of Bielefeld. In 2003 she habilitated in health sciences at the University of Bielefeld. She received her Masters of Business Administration from the University of Wales in 2011.
In 2010 Andrea Icks accepted the call to the W2 professorship for public health at the Center for Health and Society (chs) of the Medical Faculty of the HHU. Since 2016 she has headed the Institute for Health Services Research and Health Economics at the chs as a W3 professor, and since 2017 the institute of the same name at the German Diabetes Center Düsseldorf. Her research focus is health services research and health economic evaluation in the field of metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. Andrea Icks is involved in many national and international research projects.
At HHU, Andrea Icks is, among other things, deputy spokesperson for the Center for Health and Society and deputy faculty representative for the Master's program in Public Health. She was a member of the Senate until 2020.
In addition, Andrea Icks was and is active in scientific committees and boards. Among other things, she was a member of the OECD Expert Group Economics of Prevention, is Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board of the National Diabetes Surveillance of the Robert Koch Institute, member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Board of Trustees for Home Dialysis and mentor of various programs for young people.
