Dr. Michèle Denise Birtel

Dr. Michèle Denise Birtel is a Senior Research Fellow in Health Psychology at the University of Vienna, and an Associate Professor of Social Clinical Psychology at the University of Greenwich, where responsibilities also include leading the Research Centre for Mental Health and directing the Health Inequalities and Stigma Lab and PhD Programmes. Dr. Birtel is an Associate Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and engages in science communication as a blog author and member of the social media team for In-Mind Magazin. Additional roles include membership in the Human, Climate, and Sustainability Interest Group at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Psychologie, serving on the executive board of the Alexithymia Research International Alliance, and participating in various capacities within the European Health Psychology Society and the International Contact Research Network, which Dr. Birtel founded. Educational qualifications include a Vordiplom and Diplom in Psychology from the University of Mannheim, and a PhD in Social Psychology from the University of Kent.
