Nick Birch

Visiting Professor at University of Greenwich

Nick Birch is a seasoned expert in entomology and chemical ecology with extensive experience in integrated pest management (IPM) and sustainable agriculture. Currently serving as a Senior Entomologist and Chemical Ecologist at The James Hutton Institute since April 2010, Nick Birch focuses on insect-plant interactions, host plant resistance, and agro-ecology. As the Coordinator of the EU PURE project, Nick Birch aims to reduce pesticide use in European crops while addressing food security and climate change challenges. Additionally, Nick Birch is a Visiting Professor at the University of Greenwich and Idaho University, providing guidance on IPM research and collaboration on various academic endeavors. Involvement as a member of the GMO advisory panel for EFSA and past leadership roles in significant projects like AMIGA underline Nick Birch's commitment to biosafety and the environmental assessment of genetically modified plants.
