Dr. Juan Antonio Sorto

Adjunct Professor at University of Houston-Downtown

Dr. Juan Antonio Sorto is an experienced academic and community leader currently serving as an Adjunct Professor of Political Science at the University of Houston-Downtown and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Bullard Center for Environmental and Climate Justice at Texas Southern University. With over a decade of experience in community engagement and supervision, Dr. Sorto has held various leadership roles, including Community Engagement Manager at Buffalo Bayou Partnership, Board Chair for the City of Houston's Neighborhood Alliance, and Community Supervision Officer for the Harris County Community Supervision & Corrections Department. Notably, Dr. Sorto has successfully organized international humanitarian efforts, fostered alliances with diverse stakeholders, and designed educational programs to support at-risk students. Dr. Sorto holds a PhD in City/Urban, Community and Regional Planning, a Master of Public Administration, and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Corrections from Texas Southern University and the University of Houston-Downtown.
