Martina McClean's work experience includes various roles in the legal field, academia, and marketing. Martina worked as a Lecturer and Education Lead at the University of Hull Law School from 2001 to the present. Before that, they held the position of Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Hull from 1997 to 2001. In 1999, they worked as a Legal Translator at the European Commission. Prior to that, they served as a Referendar (Trainee lawyer) at Landgericht Wiesbaden, Hessen, where they gained experience in Administrative Law, European Union Law, Private Law, and Criminal Law. Martina also had internships at DUNDAS & WILSON LLP, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, and Dresdner Bank, where they worked in corporate law, research, and marketing, respectively.

Martina McClean has a diverse education history. In 1996, they obtained a Diploma in Translations (Law, Business) from the Chartered Institute of Linguists with a focus on English to German. Martina then pursued their studies at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz from 1987 to 1996, earning First and Second State Exams in Law. In 1990, Martina spent a year abroad at the University of Glasgow, specializing in Public and Comparative Law. Martina later attended the University of Hull from 1997 to 2003, where they obtained a Doctorate in Comparative and EU Law. Additionally, Martina pursued a passion for music at the Wiesbadener Konservatorium, studying piano.
