Robert Smith is a distinguished Biogeochemist with over 30 years of experience in industry, national laboratories, and academia, currently serving as Distinguished Professor Emeritus and Professor of Subsurface Science at the University of Idaho since October 2001. Smith has played a pivotal role in leading complex, interdisciplinary research projects focused on energy development and its environmental impacts. Additionally, Smith has held several leadership positions at the University, including Senior Associate Vice President for Research and Economic Development and Associate Vice President/Center Executive Officer, overseeing research initiatives and the Idaho Falls Campus. Prior experience includes serving as Associate Director for the Center for Advanced Energy Studies, a collaborative consortium promoting research and education in energy. Smith earned a PhD in Geological and Earth Sciences from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology and a BS in Geological and Earth Sciences from Oregon State University, along with an Associate of Science degree from Clackamas Community College.
