Jim Watterston

Dean, Melbourne Graduate School of Education at University of Melbourne

Jim Watterston is the current Dean of the Melbourne Graduate School of Education at the University of Melbourne. Prior to this, they served as Director-General of the Department of Education and Training in Queensland from 2013 to 2018. In this role, they were responsible for leading Queensland's largest employer with 84,000 staff and a budget of over $11.5 billion. Jim also oversaw the delivery of education and training programs and directed evidence-based reform agendas.

From 2012 to 2013, Watterston served as Deputy Secretary for the School Education Group in the Victoria Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. In this role, they were responsible for co-developing the "Towards Victoria as a Learning Community" government agenda for school reform. Prior to this, they served as Regional Director for the Eastern Metropolitan Region in the Victoria Department of Education and Early Childhood Development from 2005 to 2009.

Jim Watterston reports to Allan J. Myers, Chancellor. They are on a team with Paul Axup - VP, Administration & Finance & COO, Duncan Maskell - Vice-Chancellor, and Ian Harper - Dean, Melbourne Business School.
