Vanessa Williams has a diverse work experience in communications and advocacy. Their most recent position was as a Strategic Communications Lead at the University of Melbourne. Prior to that, they worked at the Victorian Department of Health in various roles, including as an Executive Director of Communication for the COVID-19 Response. Vanessa has also held positions at Truth Agency, Jesuit Social Services, Safer Care Victoria, Monash University, and The Royal Children's Hospital. Vanessa has extensive experience in government, having worked as a Senior Ministerial Advisor for the Victorian Government and as an Advisor for the Victorian Opposition. Vanessa's early career included a role as a student and primary carer at RMIT University.

Vanessa Williams holds a Master of Communication with Distinction from RMIT University. Vanessa is currently a Juris Doctor candidate at Monash University, studying law. Additionally, they completed their undergraduate studies at La Trobe University, earning a BSc (Hons) with a major in international politics and an Honours in population genetics.
