James Wellnitz

James Wellnitz is a consultant in computational drug discovery at Orogen Therapeutics since June 2023 and a graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, focusing on DNA encoded library analysis and AI/ML-based virtual screening methods under the guidance of Professors Alexander Tropsha. Previous experience includes an internship at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, where James built and deployed ML/AI tools for drug development, and an internship at Animol Discovery, Inc. in computational drug discovery. As an undergraduate researcher at Purdue University, James contributed to projects involving computer vision algorithms for drug discovery and x-ray crystallography of protein complexes. James holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Data Science from Purdue University, and is pursuing a PhD in Pharmacology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
