David Thomson

Royal Society University Research Fellow/principal Research Fellow at University of Southampton

David Thomson is a highly experienced researcher currently serving as a Royal Society University Research Fellow and Principal Research Fellow at the University of Southampton since April 2012, focusing on the development of next-generation photonic components and systems for computing applications. Prior to this, David was a Senior Research Fellow at the same institution, where integration of silicon-based electronic and photonic devices was a key area of work, along with in-house fabrication processes for silicon photonic devices. David's earlier experience includes a position as a Research Fellow at the University of Surrey from June 2008 to April 2012, leading the Modulator activity within the FP7 HELIOS project and developing high-performance silicon optical modulators. Additionally, David began a career at Nortel Networks as an Industrial Student in 2000. Academic qualifications include a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Photonics and a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Electronic Engineering, both from the University of Surrey.
