William Tolman

Dean, College of Arts & Sciences at University of St Thomas

William Tolman is the current Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of St Thomas. Prior to their current position, they were a William Greenleaf Eliot Professor of Chemistry and Vice Dean for Research & Entrepreneurship at Washington University in St. Louis from January 2018 to July 2022. William has also been a Distinguished McKnight University Professor at the University of Minnesota from January 1990 to December 2017.

William Tolman earned their B.A. in Chemistry from Wesleyan University. William then went on to earn their Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. After completing their Ph.D., they became a postdoctoral fellow in Chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
