Celette Sugg Skinner, Ph.D., has been Chair of the Department of Population and Data Sciences since October 2018. An expert in health disparities and health care delivery research, Dr. Skinner is particularly focused on cancer prevention and control in underserved populations. Her research examines communications interventions to promote health behavior change, especially using computer-tailored interventions. She chairs the Board of Directors of the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health Foundation, is a regularly invited adviser to the National Institutes of Health and academic institutions on cancer control and screening science and was UT Southwestern’s only member of the National Cancer Institute’s 2016 Beau Biden Cancer Moonshot Panel. She earned a master’s degree in communications research from The Wheaton Graduate School and her Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health. She was a member of the faculty at Duke University Medical Center before coming to UT Southwestern in 2007. Dr. Skinner also serves as Associate Director of Population Sciences in the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center and is a member of the Clinical Psychology training program at UT Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
