Gary Litherland

Gary Litherland is a Lecturer in Cell & Cartilage Biology at the University of The West of Scotland since January 2013, focusing on research related to disease mechanisms, particularly osteoarthritis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, obesity, and ageing. The research encompasses themes such as proteases, extracellular matrix, proteinase-activated receptors, signal transduction, articular cartilage, matrix metalloproteinases, and gene expression mechanisms. Litherland teaches courses in Biomedical Science, Advanced Biomedical Science, and Life Sciences for Adult Nursing. Previous positions include Research Associate at Newcastle University, Research Fellow at the University of Dundee, the University of Edinburgh, and the University of Leeds. Academic qualifications include a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Leeds and a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of York.
