John Wilkinson

John graduated from UTS in 1978 as the Nesbitt Silver Medal Winner and was a Prefect (Althouse*) in the UTS House System. He was also the recipient of the Alice Ada Zimmerman Award in 1977. John holds a B.A. (Hons.) from the University of Toronto and an LL.B. from Dalhousie University. He is a partner at Weirfoulds LLP, where he practices corporate and commercial law for businesses and not-for-profit organizations, charities, universities, self-regulatory bodies, and associations (including many national and provincial sport organizations). John’s expertise includes corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, negotiation of agreements, risk management, commercialization of intellectual property, and policy development. John has been a stalwart volunteer at UTS serving in a variety of roles over the past 20+ years. John served on the 90th Anniversary Committee and in the Building the Future Campaign Cabinet and is a former Director, Secretary and President of the UTS Alumni Association. In more recent years, he has been serving on the UTS Board Governance and Nominating Committee. John has been a loyal donor to UTS for over 30 years. John has an abiding interest in the role of amateur sports in society. He was volunteer general counsel to Toronto’s most recent bid for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, he co-chaired the Administration and Finance Committee of Toronto’s 2012 Ontario Summer Games Organizing Committee, and he is currently a Director of the Canadian Center for Ethics in Sport (CCES) which serves as Canada’s anti-doping agency. (*John is the grandson of the second Headmaster of UTS, John G. Althouse, who served in that position from 1923 to 1934 and later became the Dean of the College of Education and then the Chief Director of Education for the Province of Ontario.)
