Carole Smith

Carole Smith, MPH, currently serves as a Research Scientist 4 in the Division of Gastroenterology at the University of Washington, beginning in October 2024. Prior experience includes roles as a Scientist and Senior Associate Scientist at Variant Bio from January 2022 to June 2024, and a Research Scientist III and Laboratory Manager in the Department of Neurology at the University of Washington from June 2015 to January 2022, where responsibilities encompassed research on neurodegeneration and Alzheimer’s disease. Smith has also worked as an intern with RTI International during the final year of MPH studies, focusing on value-based care metrics for noncommunicable diseases. Earlier career highlights include significant positions at Amgen, Corixa Corporation, Targeted Genetics, and Invitrogen, contributing to research on inflammatory bowel disease, cancer antigens, and immunotherapy. Carole holds a Master of Public Health from the University of New England and a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from Washington State University.
