Melissa Knox

Melissa Knox, PhD, is an Associate Teaching Professor of Economics at the University of Washington since 2011, specializing in sweetened beverage taxes and health insurance. Key research areas include analyzing household and firm behavioral responses, tax equity, and long-term health impacts from childhood to adulthood. Melissa has held leadership positions, including Undergraduate Committee Co-Chair and Chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, where responsibilities involved enhancing access for under-represented students and strategic planning based on diversity statistics. Prior experience includes roles as a Senior Lecturer, Lecturer, and Visiting Instructor at the Evans School of Public Policy and Governance. Dr. Knox earned a PhD in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley, and a BA in Economics from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.
