Serena Newhall

Serena Newhall is an experienced Human Resources professional with a strong background in full-cycle HR leadership, spanning over two decades in various roles within academia and nonprofit organizations. Currently serving as the Human Resources Manager for the Department of Genome Sciences at the University of Washington, Serena oversees a workforce of approximately 400 personnel, handling recruitment, employee relations, and performance management, while also serving as a subject matter expert in multiple HR domains including employment law and conflict resolution. Prior roles include managing HR and faculty affairs in the Department of Urology and serving as an assistant in academic HR for the School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences. Additionally, Serena has a rich experience in organizational development as a Leadership Coach and Development Consultant with Miraculous Development, and previously contributed to grants management and project development at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Serena holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Reed College and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Washington.
