Chris Gaskell is a veterinary surgeon and career academic, and until retiring in 2016 was Vice-Chancellor of the Royal Agricultural University at Cirencester, having previously been at the University of Liverpool. He is a graduate of the University of Bristol. Chris has served on the executive of GuildHE, a representative body for smaller and universities of which the University of Winchester is also a member, and as a Board member of UCEA, the university’s employers association. He has been Chair of the Science Advisory Council (SAC) for DEFRA, and is currently a member of the Welsh SAC and an advisory group for Bovine Tuberculosis control in Wales. Chris has a wide interest in all things higher and further education and feels privileged to be a member of this university’s Board.
Chris lives in Gloucestershire where he is an officer in the Honourable Company of Gloucestershire; he is married to Rosalind, also an academic vet, and has two grownup children and five grandchildren, whose activities, delightfully, take up any spare time available.
