Peter Seville

Head of the School, Science & the Environment at University of Worcester

Peter graduated with a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the Welsh School of Pharmacy, Cardiff in 1994, following which he undertook his pre-registration pharmacist placement at St Peter’s Hospital, Surrey. Peter then spent some time as a basic grade pharmacist at the Royal Free Hospital, London, before returning to Cardiff University to commence a PhD investigating the development of solution pressurised metered dose inhaler systems. Following a brief spell as a community pharmacy manager in Caerphilly, Peter returned once more to Cardiff to a postdoctoral research position investigating pulmonary delivery of non-viral gene therapies.

Peter joined Aston University, Birmingham as a Lecturer, subsequently Senior Lecturer, in Pharmaceutics in 2002. He led the Inhalation Technology Research Team, published several original research papers and has a patent in the area of pulmonary drug delivery. Peter also served as a member of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences Inhalation Focus Group steering committee, and co-organised a number of symposia and conferences in the area of inhalation science. Following a few years pursuing personal interests, Peter returned to academia, joining the University of Birmingham as Deputy Head of Pharmacy, developing a new integrated MPharm degree.

Peter was appointed Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Head of the School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Central Lancashire in March 2015. In this post, he spearheaded the redesign of the MPharm curriculum in line with the new General Pharmaceutical Council’s accreditation standards; the new course achieved full reaccreditation for the maximum period, with no conditions. Peter was also involved in the development of new MBBS and Physician Associate courses at UCLan, particularly with reference to interprofessional learning opportunities, and also secured accreditation from the GPhC for a new Independent Prescribing for Pharmacists course.

In 2019, Peter joined University of Worcester as Professor and Head of the School of Science and the Environment, where he manages staff delivering a range of courses including Archaeology, Biology (including Animal Biology, Biochemistry, and Human Biology), Biomedical Science, Environmental Management and Sustainability, Forensic and Applied Biology, Geography (including Human Geography and Physical Geography), Human Nutrition, and Medical Sciences. In this role Peter is also supporting the establishment of a new Medical School at the University.

Peter's interests and experiences cover a diverse range, including: human health in his role as a pharmacist; animal health through his education in veterinary pharmacy; pharmaceutical science particularly the aerosolisation of medicines into the lung arising from his research; and law both in his role as a Justice of the Peace and as the law relates to health care.
