Christian Schwarzenegger

Prorector Professorships & Scientific Information at University of Zurich

Prof. Dr. Christian Schwarzenegger (born 1959) studied law at the University of Zurich and then worked as an assistant at the Criminological Institute of the UZH. He received his doctorate in 1992 and was admitted to the bar in the canton of Schaffhausen the following year. From 1994 to 1999 he was Assistant Professor of European Law, Comparative Law, Criminal Law and Criminology at the Universities of Niigata and Aichi in Japan. He was then appointed as an assistant professor with tenure track at UZH. After his habilitation in 2008, he became associate professor and in 2010 professor for criminal law, criminal procedure law and criminology at the UZH. From 2012 to 2014 he was Dean of the Faculty of Law.

His research focuses on topics such as victim surveys, domestic violence, the population's perception of crime control, and cybercrime and computer crime. In addition, he carries out research projects in the field of municipal crime prevention with the police department of the city of Zurich.
