Head of Engineering at Unmade

Matthew Butt is currently the Head of Engineering at Unmade, where they lead a team of engineers focused on using technology to create an efficient, demand-driven fashion and apparel industry. In this role, they have doubled the size of the Engineering team and recruited new team members, including the first Engineering Manager, while also building team morale.

Prior to joining Unmade, Matthew was a Lead Developer at Runpath from October 2018 to December 2020. Before that, they worked as a Senior Consultant at Codurance from February 2016 to October 2018. During their time at Codurance, they worked with various clients, such as ASOS, M&G Investments, and Tesco, delivering high-quality software and building agile technical and social skills. Matthew also facilitated open space conferences and spoke at various events.

Before joining Codurance, Matthew gained experience as a Software Engineer in Test at Guardian News & Media from September 2015 to January 2016. Matthew also worked as a Senior Developer & Technical Strategist at 7digital from May 2011 to September 2015, where they led various teams and achieved accomplishments in training, process improvement, and codebase management.

Matthew's earlier experience includes working as a Web Development Manager at Hemming Group Ltd from July 2006 to April 2011, leading the successful migration of web applications and introducing continuous integration and unit testing. Matthew began their career as a Web Designer/Developer at the University of East London from January 2005 to July 2006.

Matthew Butt completed their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Philosophy from the University of Cambridge, attending from 1997 to 2000. Prior to that, they attended Westminster School in London from 1995 to 1997, where they pursued A-Level and S-Level studies in Greek, Latin, Maths, and Music. Matthew'searlier education took place at Alleyn's School from 1990 to 1995, where they obtained their GCSE certification in Chemistry, English, English Literature, French, Greek, Latin, Maths, Music, and Physics. In 2019, Matthew also earned a certification as a Mental Health First Aider from Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England.
