Head, Gender Section at UNRWA

Amrita Kapur, PhD has extensive experience in gender and justice-related work. Amrita is currently working at UNRWA as the Head of the Gender Section, where they are responsible for developing the organization's new Gender Strategy. Amrita has also held positions at organizations such as Justice Rapid Response, where they worked as an International Criminal Law and SGBV Justice Expert, and Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, where they served as an Advisor on gender-responsive and inclusive peacemaking. Amrita has also worked at DCAF as a Programme Manager, focusing on integrating gender within security and justice institutions. Amrita has collaborated with the United Nations as an SGBV Analyst and has worked as an independent consultant on various gender-related projects. Amrita has also been involved in gender justice programs at the International Center for Transitional Justice and has served as a Lecturer at UNSW, teaching and conducting research on gender-based violence. Earlier in their career, Amrita worked at the Judicial System Monitoring Programme and the International Development Law Organization as an International Legal Advisor and Consultant, respectively.

Amrita Kapur, PhD, completed their education in a chronological order. Amrita started their academic journey in 1999 at UNSW, where they pursued a dual degree program in Psychology and Law. Amrita successfully completed their studies in 2004, obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and LL.B. Subsequently, in 2008, they attended the New York University School of Law, where they pursued their LL.M degree in International Law. After completing their LL.M program in 2009, they continued their pursuit of knowledge and enrolled in a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program at UNSW in the field of International Criminal Law. Amrita successfully completed their PhD in 2017.
