Dr. Stefan Schimanski

Dr. Stefan Schimanski has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning over multiple industries. Dr. Stefan is currently working at Upbound as a Senior Principal Engineer since May 2023. Prior to that, they worked at Red Hat, where they held various roles including Architectural Lead KCP, Senior Principal Software Engineer, Tech Lead API Server & Auth in OpenShift, Senior Principal Software Engineer, Tech Lead API Server & Auth in OpenShift, Principal Software Engineer, and Senior Software Engineer. Dr. Stefan worked at Red Hat from 2016 to April 2023.

Before joining Red Hat, Dr. Schimanski worked as a Freelancer at Dr. Stefan Schimanski Entwicklung & Beratung from November 2013 to December 2018. In this role, they were involved in various golang projects and freelancing as a Distributed Systems Engineer at Mesosphere. Dr. Stefan made significant contributions to projects like Mesos DNS cluster service discovery, Google Kubernetes on Mesos, Mesosphere Marathon, and Bamboo.

Prior to that, Dr. Schimanski worked at DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH from March 2010 to October 2013. Dr. Stefan held the position of Engineering Manager Linux and later became a Senior Software Engineer. Dr. Stefan successfully led a team of software engineers in building mission-critical distributed Linux systems. Dr. Stefan also initiated and established a standardized Linux platform and led the implementation of an Open-Stack private cloud for multi-node system testing.

Earlier in their career, Dr. Schimanski founded Limoia GbR, where they served as a Founder and Mac Developer from June 2008 to October 2012. Dr. Stefan also worked at LMU-München as a Research Assistant and a Post Graduate Program Fellow, contributing to projects in mathematical logic, theoretical computer science, and OpenSource LaTeX editor LyX.

Dr. Schimanski began their career as a Software Developer at Caldera International, where they developed graphical configuration tools for OpenLinux and contributed to core components of KDE 2.0. Dr. Stefan also worked briefly as a Software Developer and Tester at Pinnacle Systems.

Throughout their career, Dr. Stefan Schimanski has demonstrated expertise in software engineering, distributed systems, architecture, and Linux platforms.

Dr. Stefan Schimanski began their education at Technische Universität Clausthal in 1999, where they pursued a diploma in Computer Science. Dr. Stefan continued their studies at the same institution and obtained another diploma in Mathematics in 2004. Dr. Schimanski then went on to earn a PhD in Mathematics from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, completing this degree between 2004 and 2008.

In addition to their academic credentials, Dr. Schimanski has acquired several certifications. In 2009, they obtained a Red Hat Certified Engineer certification from Red Hat, Inc., scoring a perfect 100%. Dr. Stefan also achieved the LPIC-2 certification from the Linux Professional Institute in June 2009. More recently, in August 2017, Dr. Schimanski served as a Google Summer of Code Mentor, demonstrating their expertise and involvement in the field.
