Ann Degraeve has a diverse work experience in the field of archaeology. Ann is currently serving as the President of the European Archaeological Council since March 2022. Prior to this, they held the position of Vice President from March 2019 to March 2022 and Secretary to the Board from March 2016 to March 2022.
In 2011, Ann became the Head of the Archaeological Heritage Department at Urban.brussels. Ann also worked as an Acting University Lecturer for "Town Archaeology" at Vrije Universiteit Brussel starting from March 2021.
Additionally, Ann has been a Member of the Académie royale d'archéologie de Belgique since 2020 and the Conference on Cultural Heritage and New Technologies since 2010. Ann has also been involved with various committees and editorial boards such as Medieval and Modern Matters, Archaeologia Mediaevalis, and the Archives Working Group of the European Archaeological Council.
Prior to these roles, Ann worked as a Senior Archaeologist at the Brussels Capital Region, Heritage Direction from February 2000 to March 2011. Ann'sresponsibilities included field directing rescue archaeology projects, managing archaeological collections, web development, and editing archaeological guidelines. Ann also served as an Assistant in the Education Service at the Museum of the City of Brussels from November 1999 to February 2000.
Ann Degraeve completed their education at Ghent University, where they pursued a degree in Near Eastern Archaeology. From 1986 to 1990, they obtained a Lic. degree in this field. Following this, they continued their studies at Ghent University and completed their PhD in Near Eastern Archaeology from 1990 to 1993.

Urban est une administration de la Région de Bruxelles-Capitale. Son objectif principal est de soutenir le développement territorial de la Région de manière durable, en mettant en œuvre la politique régionale en matière d’urbanisme, de patrimoine culturel mobilier et immobilier et de gestion des programmes opérationnels de revitalisation urbaine. Parmi ces domaines fondamentaux du développement urbain, Urban assure également des missions administratives relatives aux primes à la rénovation et à l’embellissement des façades ainsi que des missions de conseil juridique, avec notamment la réforme du CoBAT. Urban joue également un rôle central dans la sensibilisation du public afin de le conscientiser au fait que nous construisons aujourd’hui la ville de demain. Pour ce faire, Urban s’appuie sur une expertise interne importante, notamment dans les domaines de l’architecture, de l’histoire, de la documentation et de la réglementation, dans le but de répondre au mieux aux attentes des citoyens et des usagers. Urban mène ces missions au moyen de la Direction Générale et de 6 unités administratives : - La Direction de l’Urbanisme - La Direction du Patrimoine culturel - La Direction de la Rénovation urbaine - La Direction Connaissance et Communication - La Direction des Affaires juridiques - La Direction Personnel et Organisation. Urban assure également le secrétariat de 3 organes: la Commission Royale des Monuments et des Sites, le Collège d’Urbanisme et le Collège d’Environnement.
