Melissa Carreno has a diverse range of work experience. Melissa started their professional career in 2012 with a Leadership Program at Lehman College. From there, they gained experience in various roles at different organizations including the University Student Senate, where they served as Vice Chair for Students with Disabilities and Delegate of Lehman College SGA. Melissa also worked as a Program Director at CoverCUNY, overseeing a health insurance enrollment project.

Melissa has held positions at the South Bronx Health Center & Center for Child Health and Resiliency as an Intern/Volunteer, gaining field experience in community health and nutrition. Additionally, Melissa worked as a Peer Coordinator and Peer Educator at Lehman College's Wellness Program, where they organized events and educated classmates about health and wellness.

In 2016, Melissa joined Team Red, White & Blue as a Social Director, organizing social events for veterans and civilians. Melissa also worked as a HealthyCUNY Graduate Research Associate at the CUNY School of Public Health.

In 2019, Melissa took on a role as a Communications Officer for the Graduate Student Government Association at CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy.

Their most recent position is as the Director of Tres Puentes Community Health Center at Urban Health Plan, Inc., where they oversee the center's operations and ensures the delivery of quality healthcare services. Prior to this, they were the Assistant to the Associate Vice President of Health Centers at the same organization.

Melissa Carreno has a Bachelor's degree in Health Education and Promotion from City University of New York-Herbert H. Lehman College, which they obtained in 2015. In 2012, they also completed an Associate's degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences/Liberal Studies from Kingsborough Community College. Melissa went on to pursue their Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in Health Policy and Management at CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy, which they completed in 2022. Additionally, they obtained a certification in "Healthy Sex! Linking Gay Men and MSM to Sexual Health Services" from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in 2017.
