Laura Barrie Smith

Laura Barrie Smith is a seasoned professional in health policy and research with a diverse background in academia and consulting. Currently serving as a Senior Research Associate in the Health Policy Division at the Urban Institute since July 2020, Laura has previously held positions as a Research Associate in the same division. Prior experience includes roles as a Graduate Research Assistant and Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health, where Laura contributed to the Division of Health Policy & Management and taught courses on health economics. Before this, Laura worked as a Senior Research Analyst and Research Consultant at The Lewin Group. Beginning in research as a Fellow at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research at St. Olaf College, Laura holds a PhD in Health Services Research, Policy, & Administration with an emphasis on Health Economics from the University of Minnesota and a BA in Mathematics from St. Olaf College.
