Derrick Cooper

Derrick Cooper currently serves as the Middle School Principal at Urbana School District #116 since July 2022. Prior to this role, Derrick accumulated extensive experience in Champaign Unit 4 Schools from August 2009 to July 2022, holding positions as Associate Principal, Assistant Principal at Central High School and Westview Elementary School, as well as Interim Dean of Students at Centennial High School. Derrick began the educational career as a Teacher at Jefferson Middle School and Washington STEM Academy. Educational qualifications include a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership and Administration and a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in the same field, both from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, along with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Secondary Education from Western Michigan University.
