Urology Centers of Alabama is pleased to announce that Dr. Mollie deShazo, Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Alabama School of Medicine (UAB), will be joining the UCA Van Scott Cancer Center as a specialist in genitourinary cancer treatment in late December 2021. Dr. deShazo is board-certified in Medical Oncology and joins UCA from UAB’s Division of Oncology where she has practiced for over twenty years.
Dr. deShazo has specialized in the treatment of genitourinary malignancies, adrenal carcinoma, and neuroendocrine carcinoma while at UAB. She has been an accomplished, caring and award-winning clinician and teacher at UAB. She has been active in Introduction to Clinical Medicine course for medical students at the medical school, Medical Director of the inpatient oncology floor, one of ten core clinical faculty for the Department of Medicine residency program and most recently faculty lead for outpatient oncology nurse practitioners.
Dr. deShazo completed medical school, internship, residency in Internal Medicine and Hematology-Oncology fellowship at UAB. She has received many awards while at UAB but is most proud of her teaching awards and the Cobbs-Rutsky Award in Clinical Excellence, a peer award for the top ten clinicians in the Department of Medicine. She is married to attorney Brannon Buck and has two children, ages 14 and 13. She enjoys gardening, cross-fit, and spending time with her family and friends.
Dr. deShazo will join Dr. Joelle Hamilton as part of the UCA Van Scott Cancer Center. This growth will allow UCA to expand the genitourinary cancer care to patients across the southeast.
