Mark Sortino has held multiple roles throughout their work experience. From 2010 onwards, they became the CEO of Team MPI (Multisport Performance Institute), where they served as a highly qualified coach in various disciplines such as triathlon, paratriathlon, and cycling.
Starting in 2012, Sortino became a Contracted Coach for Team USA Paratriathlon at USA Triathlon. Mark was responsible for athlete and coach recruitment, High-Performance Camps, and managing USA paratriathletes at World Triathlon events. Additionally, they acted as the Team USA Coach for the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and Tokyo in 2021.
In the same year, Sortino also joined Challenged Athletes Foundation as the Sr Programs Manager. Here, they developed and managed the CAF Elite Paratriathlon Team, oversaw Paratriathlon camps and Swim clinics across the country, and handled budgeting and building activities.
Before that, from 2007 until 2010, Sortino worked for Chief of Naval Air Training (CNATRA) as an Integrated Product Team Lead (IPT) contractor. In this role, they were responsible for the acquisition and implementation of advanced training systems for Naval Flight Officer Training.
Prior to their civilian career, Sortino served in the US Navy Reserve from 2006 to 2008. Mark held the position of CO VT-4 SAU, where they led a squadron of reserve officers and executed a significant budget in support of active duty at VT-4 for flight training.
Overall, Sortino has acquired a diverse range of professional experiences, displaying leadership and expertise in coaching, program development, team management, and military operations.
Mark Sortino attended The Hotchkiss School from 1982 to 1986, during which they obtained their H.S. Diploma. Following that, they enrolled at the United States Naval Academy from 1986 to 1990, earning a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Political Science. Additionally, Mark has obtained several certifications, including being a USAT Paratriathlon Certified Coach from USA Triathlon since August 2017, a USA Triathlon Certified Coach Level III since February 2016, and a F.I.S.T. Certified Bike Fitter from Fit Institute Slowtwitch since April 2009. Mark also holds a USA Triathlon Certified Coach Level II certification, but the specific month and year of obtaining it are not available. Moreover, Mark is a USA Triathlon Certified Race Director and has a USAC Level II Coaching certification from USA Cycling.
