Umpire at USABL

Lionel Smelyanskiy is an experienced professional with a diverse background in officiating and leadership roles. Currently serving as an umpire for USABL since June 2018, Lionel has officiated various baseball games across New Jersey, ensuring smooth game operations. In addition to this role, Lionel has been a delivery driver for DoorDash since April 2021. At Camp Briar Hill, where Lionel has worked from June 2018, barring the cancellation in 2020 due to COVID-19, Lionel has thrived as a group leader, enjoying the camaraderie with peers and friends. Lionel is pursuing education at Indiana University Bloomington, expected to graduate in 2025, following a high school graduation from Marlboro High School in June 2021.

USABL

USABL (U.S. Amateur Baseball League) established in 1985 was the first youth-amateur travel baseball league in the Tri-State area. We are also the largest travel league with over 2,000 teams playing Spring, Summer and Fall. USABL’s Commissioner and founder, Robert “Bob” Delahant began the league as a way to get more competitive baseball to supplement his son’s little league all-star team with extra games. The goal of USABL is to offer players competitive and quality baseball, as well as all that comes with being on a team. We pride ourselves on giving players/teams a chance to teach good baseball and play competitive baseball at an early age. USABL held its first ever USABL State Championship in Spring 2013 at the 13U age group and it was a huge success. We plan to continue putting together the 13U State Championship and have plans to implement it in other age groups in the coming years. U.S.A.B.L offers competitive travel baseball for ages 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15/16, 16/18, 18 & Over, 28 & Over, 38 & Over Today the league boasts of more than 2,000 teams and 20,000 players, playing in different programs under the USABL banner.
