Sonia Weaver

Associate Director Of Laboratory Services at UT Health East Texas

Sonia Weaver has a diverse work experience that spans over several years. Sonia began their career as a Pharmacy Technician in the US Army from 1985 to 1989. Following their military service, they worked as the Director of Laboratory Services at Atlanta Memorial Hospital from 1995 to 2007, where they were responsible for providing leadership and supervision to ensure efficient and effective operations. From 2007 to 2013, Sonia worked as the Transfusion Service Supervisor at Hendrick Medical Center, where they supervised daily operations, conducted training and competency assessments, and implemented protocols to meet FDA requirements. Sonia then joined Carter BloodCare as a Quality Assurance Specialist, where they conducted internal audits, managed post-donation information, and assisted with FDA and EEU inspections. Most recently, Sonia has been working at CHRISTUS Good Shepherd Medical Center and CHRISTUS Trinity Clinics Longview/Marshall Region as the Laboratory Compliance-QA/safety officer, responsible for maintaining accreditation and preparing laboratory sites for inspections. In 2019, they joined UT Health East Texas as the Associate Director of Laboratory Services.

Sonia Weaver holds an MBA in Health/Health Care Administration/Management from the University of Texas at Tyler, obtained between 2017-2019. Prior to that, they earned a Master's degree in Business Administration and Management, General from Texas A&M University-Texarkana from 2001-2003. Sonia also has a Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology/Technologist from Cameron University (1992-1993) and a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, also from Cameron University (1991-1992). Additionally, they have obtained a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt certification in 2017, and a Specialist in Blood Bank certification from AABB.
