Michael Sowers

Michael Sowers is an accomplished soil scientist with extensive experience in academia and industry. Currently serving as a Soil Judging Instructor and Coach at California State University, Fresno since August 2023, Sowers previously held the position of Managing Soil Scientist at Valmont Industries, Inc. since October 2014. Sowers also worked as a Construction Inspector and Soil Scientist at CEDARVILLE Engineering Group, LLC for a short tenure in 2014 and as an Adjunct Soil Judging Instructor at Delaware Valley University from 2008 to 2014, contributing to multiple championship titles in soil judging during that time. Previous roles include Staff Scientist at Morris & Ritchie Associates, Inc., and Professional Soil Scientist at DelVal Soil & Environmental Consultants, where responsibilities included leading soil investigations and ensuring compliance with radiation safety regulations. Sowers earned a Bachelor’s degree in Soil Science and Agronomy from Delaware Valley University from 1989 to 1993.
