Ryan Kersten

Ryan Kersten has a diverse work experience that spans various industries and roles. In 2017, they worked as a Project Associate Outreach and Analytical Programs at DAI, where they conducted analysis and research on decentralization and financial revenues in Liberia. Ryan also served as a Project Manager at Valorant Health, managing a mental and behavioral health project with the Indian Health Service (IHS) and coordinating patient and provider onboarding. Prior to that, Ryan worked as a Scientific Technician 2 at the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, collecting catch and effort data from ocean fisheries.

In 2021, Ryan took on the role of a GIS Intern/Research Assistant at Archipelagos, Institute of Marine Conservation, where they represented the institute during the development of the Med Sea Alliance and submitted grant proposals for various projects. Ryan also worked as an Assistant Fishmonger at Fiskbúð Sjávarfangs, organizing and processing fish using traditional Icelandic methods.

Ryan has also contributed to political organizations, including the League of Conservation Voters and the Alaska Democratic Party, where they worked as a Field Organizer, contacting voters and organizing volunteers for campaign activities. Additionally, they served as a Business Organizer at CADC, convincing business owners to support the "Yes to Affordable Groceries Campaign" and organizing their participation in events.

Outside of the political and conservation sectors, Ryan gained experience as an Assistant Rendering and Drone Specialist at 3D Design, where they edited and rendered architectural plans and piloted drones for aerial photography. Ryan also worked as an Alausi Program Director at the Maria Lida Foundation, managing teachers and coordinating English programs.

Prior to that, they completed a Master's Degree in Global Justice and Security Studies from Washington State University from 2014 to 2016. Ryan also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and Government from Washington State University, which they achieved from 2011 to 2014. Furthermore, they have pursued additional certifications as an Open Water Diver through NAUI Worldwide and as a Private Aircraft Pilot from the Federal Aviation Administration.
