Phillip Serna is an experienced musician and educator specializing in double bass, viola da gamba, and violone. Currently serving as an Instructor of Double Bass at Elgin Community College since August 2024, Phillip also performs and teaches at Just Bach and maintains a freelance career as a performer and pedagogue since 2000. Additional roles include Instructor of Double Bass and Viola da Gamba, as well as Chamber Music Coach at Valparaiso University since 2008, and faculty positions at OPUS Chamber Music Camp, Whitewater Early Music Festival, and the Chicago Bass Festival. Phillip has been the Music Director for Viols in Our Schools since 2006. Academic credentials include a Doctor of Music and a Master of Music from Northwestern University, as well as a Bachelor of Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
