With a strong background in sales, marketing, and business management, Gertjan has also served in the Royal Netherlands Army as part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon. Gertjan holds a Nima A + B degree from Nederlands Instituut voor Marketing and has completed executive education at Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management.

Van der Wal has been an East specialist since 1970, organizing groupage, full truck loads (FTL), less than truck loads (LTL) and oversized shipments (ODC) to Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Georgia, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Iraq and many more Eastern countries. In 2008, we founded SmartWay Logistics to focus on all 4PL activities.
