Wayne Balshin

Interim VP, People at Vancouver Coastal Health

Wayne brings over 25 years of senior Human Resources/Labour Relations (HR/LR) leadership experience to his current role as interim Vice President, People. Wayne is a member of the law society of BC and graduate of Osgoode Hall York University. His extensive HR/LR experience includes executive director of People Operations (includes HR/LR Advisors, Workforce Scheduling Services and Work Design/Compensation with VCH). He has previously worked as Labour Relations Leader with Providence Health Care.

Wayne was selected for the Award of Excellence: HR Professional of the Year 2011 by the BC Human Resources Management Association (BC HRMA) for developing a range of workforce initiatives that required 'out of the box' strategy and deployment with provincial union and multi-health consensus. Wayne was instrumental in designing and implementing VCH's Respectful Workplace and bullying program (RWP), which included the first ever confidential no-bully reporting line in Canada, the Continuous Communication program to help managers stay connected and support frontline staff and other Human Resources (HR) initiatives aimed at optimizing their workforce, using resources efficiently, and improving workplace engagement and planning.

In addition to his extensive experience at VCH, Wayne is an authentic and caring leader with a passion for identifying opportunities for improvement to enhance patient care. His dynamic thinking has delivered multiple benefits to both VCH and its employees.
