Murat Digicaylioglu MD PhD has had a long and successful career in medical research. Murat began their career in 2000 as a Research Assistant Professor at the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute. In 2006, they became an Assistant Professor at UC San Diego. In 2007, they joined UT Health San Antonio as an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery and Physiology and Director of Research, where they were responsible for overseeing the preclinical and translational research at the Department of Neurosurgery. In 2014, they founded and became President of Peria Inc. In 2017, they were appointed Senior Staff Scientist at The Scripps Research Institute, where they were responsible for the modelling of human neurological diseases using hiPSC from patients with HIV and brain tumors, as well as developing and executing rodent models of stroke, traumatic brain injury, and brain tumors. In the same year, they were also appointed Professor at the Scintillon Institute, where they led NIH-funded research focusing on neuropathology induced by chronic substance abuse. Most recently, in 2022, they became Director of Medical Affairs at Vanguard Clinical, Inc.
Murat Digicaylioglu MD PhD completed their Masters of Science, MD at Ruhr University Bochum from 1982 to 1989 in Neuroanatomy and Neuroscience. Murat then went on to University of Zurich, where they earned their Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Neuroscience from 1990 to 1997. Lastly, they completed a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard Medical School from 1997 to 2000 in Neurobiology.
