Jennifer Yuanshih Hu

Jennifer Yuanshih Hu is an experienced scientist with a wide range of research and teaching experience. Jennifer Yuanshih began their career in 2006 as a Focus Group Translator for the Bureau of Health Promotion, Department of Health, Taiwan. Jennifer Yuanshih then went on to become a Graduate Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant at the University of Illinois at Chicago from 2006-2012. During this time, they designed and conducted studies to examine the effect of environmental enrichment on neuropathology and neuroplasticity of Alzheimer's disease (AD) using in vitro and in vivo models, established in vitro neural stem cell (NSCs) and primary neuronal cell culture to study cell proliferation and differentiation in AD and CNS degenerations, and developed surgical techniques in mouse for brain regions microdissection and stereotaxic injection. From 2012-2021, Jennifer worked as a Research Assistant Professor of Medicine (Pulmonary & Critical Care) and Research Scientist (Pulmonary & Critical Care) at Northwestern University - The Feinberg School of Medicine. In these roles, they managed 2 individual cores in 2 program project grants funded by NHLBI & NIA in providing lab services to different research projects, established QC SOPs for purification, propagation, production and quantification of influenza viruses (IAV) for multiple pulmonary research labs use, led in-house animal behavioral core for analyses of neurocognitive and neuromuscular functions in viral pneumonia, aging and neurodegenerative disease mouse models, studied the function of intermediate filament protein in modulating macrophage metabolism and functions during influenza infection using in vivo models, designed and executed in vivo studies and cell-based assays to assess the efficacy of drug molecules and proteins in regulating macrophages and T cell functions, and developed cell-based assays to evaluate cell migration, metabolism, cytokine release in BMDMs and Treg cells. From 2014-2021, Jennifer was also the Web Administrator for the Chicago Chapter Society of Neuroscience (CSfN). In 2021, they began their current role as Senior Scientist at Vanqua Bio.

Jennifer Yuanshih Hu obtained their Bs. in Pharmacy from National Taiwan University between 2002 and 2006. Jennifer Yuanshih then went on to pursue their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Anatomy and Cell Biology (Neuroscience) from the University of Illinois Chicago between 2006 and 2012.
