Sveinung Birkeland

Sveinung Birkeland has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and companies. Sveinung currently serves as the VP Safety and Security at Vår Energi since November 2022. Prior to this, they held positions at Vår Energi as the Sustainability and Environment Manager from January 2020 to November 2022, and as the Climate and Environment Manager from December 2018 to January 2020.

Before joining Vår Energi, Sveinung worked as an Environmental Advisor at Point Resources from November 2017 to December 2018. Sveinung also gained experience at ExxonMobil as an Environmental Advisor from January 2015 to November 2017.

Sveinung's earlier career includes roles as a Senior Environmental Consultant at DNV GL from June 2012 to December 2014, an Environmental Advisor at Shell from January 2014 to August 2014, and an Environmental Advisor at Eni Norge AS from February 2013 to May 2013.

Sveinung started their professional journey as a Research Scientist at Nofima in September 2004 and continued in this role until May 2012.

Sveinung Birkeland completed their education in a chronological order. Sveinung first attended the University of Agder (UiA) from 1993 to 1996, where they obtained a degree in Analytical Chemistry and became an Analytical Chemistry Engineer. Following this, they enrolled at the University of Bergen (UiB) in 1996 and completed their Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Analytical Chemistry / Biology in 1997. Sveinung continued their studies at UiB and earned a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Marine Biology from 1997 to 2000. Finally, Birkeland pursued their Doctorate (Dr. Scient.) at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (UMB) from 2001 to 2004, specializing in Fish quality and processing technology.
