Alexander Kaplun

VP Product at Variantyx

Alexander Kaplun has a diverse work experience in the field of clinical genetics, bioinformatics, and translational medicine. Alexander started their career in 2005 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Wayne State University, where they focused on translational medicine and oncology. During this time, they developed expertise in experimental techniques and later transitioned to bioinformatics and computational analysis of high-throughput data.

In 2012, Alexander joined BIOBASE as a Field Applications Scientist, where they coordinated global training and support activities for a wide range of clinical and biological software and databases. Alexander also participated in scientific conferences, prepared educational materials, and conducted technical trainings for academic and industrial users.

In 2014, they joined QIAGEN Bioinformatics as a Senior Scientist and Associate Manager, Integrated Solutions and Support. Alexander gained expertise in bioinformatics solutions, including applications and knowledge bases developed by legacy CLC bio, Ingenuity, and BIOBASE. Alexander evaluated bioinformatics needs, customized data workflows and pipelines, and provided comprehensive solutions for bioinformatics needs.

In 2016, Alexander took on the role of Director of Product Management at Variantyx, a clinical genetics company. Alexander played a key role in the application of Whole Genome Sequencing in clinical genetic testing. Most recently, in September 2021, they transitioned to the position of VP Product at Variantyx.

Throughout their career, Alexander has demonstrated expertise in personalized medicine, computational biology, and teaching. Alexander'swork experience showcases their ability to adapt and excel in different roles within the field of genetics and bioinformatics.

Alexander Kaplun earned their Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Biology/Biotechnology from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, where they attended from 1993 to 1997. Alexander then pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Biotechnology from the same university, completing it from 1998 to 2000. Finally, they earned their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, studying there from 2000 to 2005.
