Associate Product Manager, Rare Genomics at Variantyx

Shane Hussey has a diverse background in various roles and positions. Shane'smost recent work experience was at Variantyx, where they held multiple roles. As an Associate Product Manager, Rare Genomics, they focused on improving turnaround time and sample/wetbench issues, resulting in a 40% reduction in TAT and significant wet bench quality improvements. Shane also played a key role in designing laboratory automation and collaborating with software engineers for implementation. Prior to this, Shane worked as the Senior Manager of Laboratory Operations, where they managed a genome sequencing service provider, conducted statistical analysis, and oversaw wet bench quality improvements. Shane also served as the Bioinformatic Operations Specialist, managing bioinformatic validation, IT integration projects, and day-to-day operations of outsourced samples for sequencing.

Before their time at Variantyx, Shane worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where they developed an electroportation protocol for Amphibian Chytrid Fungi and conducted research on tubulin evolution. Shane also mentored and led undergraduate students in research projects. Prior to that, they worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the University of Connecticut, focusing on investigating horizontal gene transfer in Endomicrobium spp. and conducting growth curves for soil protists. Shane Hussey has a diverse educational background. In 2012, they started their academic journey by pursuing an Associate's degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences/Liberal Studies at Capital Community College. Shane attended the college until 2015 and successfully obtained their Associate's degree.

In the same year, 2015, Hussey enrolled at the University of Connecticut. At UConn, they pursued two bachelor's degrees simultaneously. From 2015 to 2018, they focused on Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, earning a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in that field. Concurrently, they also pursued Molecular and Cell Biology, acquiring another Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree specializing in Microbiology, General.

Hussey's academic journey did not end there. In 2021, they enrolled in Northeastern University to pursue a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Data Science. This program is expected to be completed in 2024.
