Mehran Khodabandeh

Co-Founder and Machine Learning Researcher at Variational AI

Mehran Khodabandeh has held various positions in the field of Machine Learning since 2013. Mehran began their career as a Research Assistant at Simon Fraser University, where they worked on a variety of Machine Learning research problems focused on challenging Computer Vision problems. Mehran then held Research Intern positions at National Institute of Informatics in 2015 and 2016. In 2017, they were a Research Intern at Microsoft, where they worked on video generation using GANs to create training data for action recognition task. This work was published at CVPR 2018 trajnet workshop and Microsoft patented the algorithm that was proposed. In 2018, they were a PhD intern at Google and a Research Intern at D-Wave Systems Inc., where they worked on domain adaptation for object detection and was published at ICCV 2019. In 2019, they became a Machine Learning Researcher at D-Wave Systems Inc. and Co-Founder and Machine Learning Researcher at Variational AI, where they use state-of-the-art machine learning in a data-efficient method to rapidly generate novel and diverse compounds.

Mehran Khodabandeh began their educational journey in 2008 when they attended Sharif University of Technology to study Computer Engineering. Mehran then went on to pursue a Masters in Computer Science from Simon Fraser University from 2013 to 2015. Mehran is currently in the process of completing their PhD in Computer Science from Simon Fraser University, which they began in 2015 and is expected to complete in 2022.
