Vast is seeking a Senior Writer to join our team reporting to the VP of Communications, you will be responsible for brainstorming concepts with the design, product, communications and marketing team members and developing original web, social, press materials for our owned external and internal channels. We are looking for a strong communicator who can express ideas clearly not just on the page , but also in presentations and brainstorm sessions. Here, you will be instrumental in both creating copy that drives action and emotion and developing how the Vast story is told to both internal and external audiences.

 This will be a full-time, exempt position located in our Long Beach location.

Responsibilities: 

  • Write customer-facing copy that spans Vast’s owned channels: website, email, social and external public relations.
  • Distill our brand mission, product, and purchasing process into accessible, inviting language for external audiences, including potential customers, government stakeholders, and public at large.
  • Take an active role in brief building and product positioning – information gathering and synthesis are core to the role – your detective skills will be put to good use.
  • Integrate deeply into Vast’s communications channels, collaborating with product managers, engineers, subject matter experts, approval groups, content and comms team members to create consistent, compelling messaging for customers.
  • Work closely with Comms peers and executive teams on internal communications and internal facing presentations.
  • Organize and track feedback across multiple writing assignments, rapidly integrating feedback to keep content velocity high.
  • Champion clarity and challenge internal stakeholders to maintain Vast’s brand voice and customer experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience in writing copy for marketing, social media, digital platforms internal audiences, press materials, and other communications channels. 
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and a proven track record of highly effective collaboration.
  • Experience working across multiple subject matter experts and organizational perspectives.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent additional years of experience.
  • Experience working in a startup environment or in tech.
  • Experience distilling technical products and processes into simple, digestible bits of communication.
  • Relentlessly curious and unwilling to settle for surface level understanding. Be ready to become an expert on all things Vast!
  • Highly proactive – you don’t wait for a brief to be assembled for you, and don’t expect things to be tidy.
  • Self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity and the ability to juggle multiple priorities under tight deadlines in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Flexible. We are a start-up and sometimes you will be asked to try something new!

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to support critical mission milestones.
Salary Range: California
$101,000$145,000 USD
