Jonathan Portman has worked in a variety of roles in the scientific field since 2007. From 2007-2008, they were a Research Assistant IV at UC Davis and a Research Intern at UC Davis Medical Center in 2008. From 2011-2017, they were a Doctor of Philosophy at University of California, Berkeley, where they managed three successful projects investigating how the foodborne pathogen Listeria monocytogenes senses and responds to its human host during infection. This work led to four peer-reviewed publications and one patent. In 2016, they were a Research Intern at Genentech, where they performed hypothesis-driven research within the Department of Infectious Diseases. In 2018, they were an Associate Consultant at Harvard Graduate Volunteer Consulting Group. From 2017-2019, they were a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard Medical School and a Scientist I and II at Affinivax Inc., where they led a team of research associates in the design, execution, and interpretation of pre-clinical experiments. Since 2021, they have been a Senior Scientist II and Senior Scientist at Vaxess Technologies, where they are a subject matter expert in Immunology for preclinical research and clinical development programs. Jonathan has established in-house flow cytometry capabilities and regularly supports and oversees rapid assay development efforts to support the company's preclinical pipeline.
Jonathan Portman obtained a Bachelor of Science in Cellular Biology from the University of California, Davis between 2006 and 2010. Jonathan then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Infectious Disease & Immunity from the University of California, Berkeley between 2011 and 2017.
