Kartik Venkataraman

Founder / Advisor at Vayu Robotics

Kartik Venkataraman has a diverse and extensive work experience. Kartik is currently serving as the Head of Perception and Robotics Applications at Intrinsic, an Alphabet Company, since May 2022. Prior to this, they were the Founder and Advisor at Vayu Robotics starting from October 2021.

Kartik also founded and served as the CEO of Akasha Imaging, a Khosla Ventures Startup, from April 2019 to May 2022. The company focused on building computational imaging vision systems for robotic automation in the manufacturing and automotive industries. It was later acquired by Alphabet and became part of Intrinsic.

Before founding Akasha Imaging, Kartik worked as a Consultant at Solstice Imaging, where they focused on machine learning applications in computational vision and perception from July 2018 to November 2018. Prior to that, they held the position of Sr Director of Advanced Technology and Research at Fotonation, XPeri from November 2016 to May 2018.

Kartik has also made significant contributions to the imaging industry. Kartik co-founded Pelican Imaging Corporation, where they served as the CTO from March 2008 to November 2016. Kartik also worked as a Senior Manager in Advanced R&D at Micron Imaging (formerly Aptina) from 1999 to 2008.

Before entering the industry, Kartik began their career at Intel as a Member of Technical Staff in the Microprocessor Research Labs from June 1996 to April 1999. Kartik also worked as a Researcher in Residence at the Institute of Systems Science (Singapore) in collaboration with Intel Corporation from September 1993 to May 1996.

Kartik Venkataraman has a PhD in Computer Graphics/Computer Science from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Prior to this, they obtained a Master of Science in Computer Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Their undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Technology (Honors) in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. In addition to their formal education, Kartik has obtained several certifications. These certifications include "Neural Networks and Deep Learning" from Coursera, obtained in March 2019, "Robotics: Perception" from Coursera, obtained in July 2018, and "Machine Learning" from Coursera, obtained in June 2017. It is also mentioned that Kartik has completed a certification titled "Improving Deep Neural Networks: Hyperparameter tuning, Regularization and Optimization," but the date of obtaining this certification is not provided.
