About Vedanta Biosciences:

Vedanta Biosciences is a late-stage biopharmaceutical company developing medicines for the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. The company’s lead assets include potential first-in-class oral therapies, VE303, a Phase 3-ready candidate for recurrent C. difficile infection, and VE202, in a Phase 2 trial for ulcerative colitis. Vedanta’s pipeline has been built using the company’s industry-leading product engine for the development of therapies based on defined consortia of bacteria grown from pure clonal cell banks. The product engine, supported by foundational IP, includes one of the largest libraries of bacteria isolated from the human microbiome, vast clinical datasets, proprietary capabilities in consortium design, and end-to-end CGMP manufacturing capabilities at commercial launch scale.

The Role:

Vedanta Biosciences is seeking a Head of Commercial to lead commercialization strategy and operations and to build critical capabilities for our first-in-class live biotherapeutic products (LBPs). This leader will have broad responsibility for all aspects of commercialization strategy and operations including, but not limited to, Sales, Marketing, and Market Access to enable the launch of Vedanta’s live biotherapeutic products (LBPs).  This person will design and build a fit-for-purpose capability set and lead critical activities necessary to optimize commercial success.  This person will also play a key role in designing and leading enterprise transformation as the company transitions from a development-phase organization to a patient-focused commercial enterprise.  This person will sit on the executive team and report to the Chief Executive Officer.

Here’s What You’ll Do:

  • Partner with the CEO and leadership team in all aspects of commercial and business strategy, operations, planning, and performance management.
  • Lead development of a comprehensive, cross-functionally integrated, insight-driven Global commercialization strategy for Vedanta’s live biotherapeutic products.
  • Lead development and deployment of a comprehensive stage-gated operating plan and oversee all market and company readiness activities leading up to and through commercial launch.
  • Build a fit-for-purpose Commercial capability set that meets Vedanta’s strategic and functional requirements.
  • Design and deploy integrated company, disease, and product communication plans in partnership with Medical Affairs and other relevant functions to elevate Vedanta’s profile and establish conditions for a successful product launch.
  • Lead, design, and enable decision making for go-to-market models which may include establishment of strategic partnerships in certain geographies.
  • Represent the company, build company credibility, and advance critical relationships with key external stakeholders such as KOLs, Patient Advocacy Organizations, Payers, and investors.
  • Provide commercial input to drug discovery, pipeline strategy, and program prioritization.
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to approximately 40% of the time.

Requirements:

  • BS or BA degree required; advanced science or business degree preferred.
  • 20+ years of experience in biotech and/or pharmaceutical industry with 10+ years leading and managing commercial functions
  • Experience building commercial capabilities in biotech (preferred) and/or pharma
  • Experience leading enterprise transformation from pre-commercial to commercial phase company
  • Close familiarity with the drug development process and deep expertise for relevant commercial input across all phases of the product lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated product launch success record that ideally includes introduction of new treatment paradigms and first-in-company launch. 
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the trends in US and Global health care markets pertaining to customer and stakeholder landscape, competitive dynamics, regulatory and access environment, delivery systems, channels, and healthcare compliance regulations. 
  • The ability to work collaboratively with a leadership team, as well as with many outside collaborators.  Experience with investors and prior BoD engagement experience is a plus
  • Excellent project management and interpersonal skills in leading and directing teams to achieve project objectives and goals.
  • Analytical and strategic thinking skills to develop commercial models.
  • Commercialization experience in the fields of gastroenterology and infectious disease is a plus.
  • A strong sense of urgency with an ability to process information and make decisions quickly.
