Jim Nelson is a seasoned corporate lawyer with extensive experience in advising clients on sourcing transactions, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and intellectual property arrangements. Since July 2010, Jim has served as a Partner at Venable LLP, supporting early-stage technology companies in their legal and financing needs. Prior to this role, Jim was a Partner at DLA Piper LLP (US) from June 1998 to July 2010, where advisory services were provided to companies ranging from Fortune 10 firms to start-ups, with a focus on intellectual property asset development and commercialization. Jim began legal career as a Business Litigation Associate at Lord Bissell & Brook from May 1995 to June 1998 and served as a Legislative Correspondent/Assistant at the U.S. House of Representatives from September 1989 to January 1991. Educational qualifications include a Doctor of Law (JD) from Tulane University Law School, an MBA from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and a BA in Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis.
