Brandan Piel's work experience includes an internship at Old Dominion University's Global Health Center from May 2019 to August 2019. During this time, they were responsible for data coding and entry for survey data collection, program development and implementation for the Global Health Hero's Program, and conducting research studies on healthcare problems for children in Virginia.

In 2017, they completed the Speaking to the Public and Writing for the Public certifications from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In 2016, they received training in Sexual Assault from Army ROTC (Official Page). Additionally, in 2011, Brandan completed the Health Literacy for Public Health Professionals- WB2364 certification from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Brandan also holds a Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) certification from the National CPR Association, obtained in 2019.
